Mystery at Jacob's Well

Picture
In the Texas Hill Country, four students are plunged into a mystery as they prepare a report on caves.  An underwater cave deep in an eerie well, which has claimed the lives of eight divers, a mysterious carved stone, unexplained frightening cries, and other strange events envelop the students as they seek to unravel the mystery and find the answers.

In her school presentation of Mystery at Jacob's Well, Marcia includes a video of a dive into Jacob's Well which does NOT include the finding of the bones as shown on "The Well" page. She has a reading from the book, the video, an archeological dig, and a Q&A Session, all of which lasts about 45 minutes to an hour.

"In the course of unfolding her story, Marcia works in such arcane information as details on tectonic plates, fecal coliform counts,  what to do if confronted by  mountain lion, the range of bobcats, prehistoric geology, faultlines, and the history of Wimberley. Pretty daring stuff in a children's book, and Marcia pulls it off nicely."

The Backpack Cat

Picture
Here is what Reverend Mark T. Goodman, Pastor of Rabbit Creek Community Church in Anchorage, Alaska, has to say about The Backpack Cat:

"A true delight!  Marcia Bennett has written a joy to read and a story to share. I laughed out loud.  Young Daniel, the protagonist, finds what he really needs - love.  He finds that love in unexpected places and people, and even in an ugly old cat.  Sand dunes, hot air balloons, a hurricane - this book has it all!

What promised to be the most boring summer of his life turns out to be the most cherished of times. Join Daniel, Gram and Feogato on a journey of love, hope and lasting memories.  This book will lift your spirit as it reminds you of the tender love that can only come from grandmothers, the bond between boy and animal, and prayers answered by God."

Ladies of the Bomb Squad

Picture
Meet the Ladies of the Bomb Squad: Evie, Bertha, Sally and Melba.  In this warm humorous book, a quartet of seniors has adventures and solves mysteries along the way.  Marcia Bennett has created a voice for a  portion of our society that needs to be listened to.  Ladies of the Bomb Squad is the story of four older women who retain the sparkle of youth combined with the wisdom and compassion that only a full life's experience can provide.  Unburdened by the usual restraints of career and family, in the sunset years of their lives, these "best, best friends in the world" love and laugh with each other, and make the reader do the same.

Marcia Bennett has created a delightful and hilarious cast of characters who will make you wish you could have tea with any one of the Ladies of the Bomb Squad.

        ELENA'S GIFT
Being the target of the school bully is bad enough. But to be in a new school in a country where she doesn't know the language is almost more than the shy fifth grader can bear. Elena longs to be back in Mexico in familiar and comforting surroundings. But her mother promised Elena's dying father that they would stay in this country and make a new life for themselves just as he had planned. Being called "Elena-Paina" and having her accent constantly mocked by class bully Greg is hurtful and embarrassing. Elena, with the help of a kind classmate and the new student teacher, overcomes these problems, the same problems faced by many children today, and gives a very unusual gift to her new friend, Mrs. Miller, the student teacher who helps her turn her life around.
