Jacob’s Well, in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, has cost 8 divers their lives. The area surrounding the well and the mysterious depths of the well itself provide the setting for Marcia Bennett’s mystery novel for ages 8-13.

Jacob’s Well has been a favorite swimming hole for generations. The well drops straight down for about 30 feet, then angles off into several ever-deepening caves.  Because of the danger, these underwater caves are not yet fully explored.

The well is mapped to a depth of about 135 feet and length of about 250 feet.  Note:  As of summer, 2004, the well has been explored and mapped an additional 1500 feet.
