Jacob’s Well, in Wimberley, Texas, the heart of the Hill Country, has cost 8 divers their lives. The area surrounding the well and the mysterious depths of the well itself provide the setting for Marcia Bennett’s mystery novel for ages 8-13.

The well drops straight down for about 30 feet, then angles off into several ever-deepening caves.  Because of the danger, these underwater caves are not yet fully explored.

 In 2001 the well was mapped to a depth of about 135 feet and length of about 250 feet.  As of summer, 2004, the well was further explored and mapped an additional 1500 feet.
