Mystery at Jacob’s Well
by Marcia Allen Bennett

When four students decide to combine a science report on caves with an environmental effort at Jacob’s Well, near Wimberley, Texas. strange things begin to happen. First they find a stone engraved with a mysterious message. Forced to spend the night at the well site, where over the years eight divers have lost their lives exploring the underwater caves, they hear ghostly cries and strange guitar music. The message on the stone and other strange goings-on lure them into solving a mystery.  But when a reclusive local character issues a warning to them, do they listen?

“In the course of unfolding her story, Marcia works in such arcane information as details on tectonic plates, fecal coliform counts, what to do if confronted by a mountain lion, the range of bobcats, prehistoric geology, faultlines, and the history of Wimberley.   Pretty daring stuff in a children’s book, and Marcia pulls it off nicely.”

My Teacher Miss Fillywig
My teacher, Miss Fillywig,
Reads books backwards;
She adds two and two and gets three.
She tells us that Boston is in California
And that your brain is found in your knee.
Miss Fillywig jumps rope while she calls the roll,
Her ponytails bounce up and down;
Tuesday through Thursday she wears purple jeans,
On Friday, an evening gown.
She is the best teacher I ever had
She says teaching’s easy as pie
But Miss Fillywig, we’re told,
Won’t be teaching next year
And I cannot figure out why!

The Backpack Cat

Here is what Reverend Mark T. Goodman, Pastor, Immanuel Baptist Church, Anchorage, Alaska, has to say about The Backpack Cat:

“A true delight! Marcia Bennett has written a joy to read and a story to share. I laughed out loud.  Young Daniel, the protagonist, finds what he really needs - love.  He finds the love in unexpected places and people, and even in an ugly old cat.  Sand dunes, hot air balloons, a hurricane - this book has it all!

What promised to be the most boring summer of his life turns out to be the most cherished of times. Join Daniel, Gram and Feogato on a journey of love, hope and lasting memories. This book will lift your spirit as it reminds you of the tender love that can only come from grandmothers, the bond between boy and animal, and prayers answered by God.”
